This letter is not in the collections of the Chopin Museum in Warsaw. It is lost. The autograph of the Szafarnia Courier from August 19, 1824, was kept by Chopin's family. It was most likely destroyed in 1863 (at that time, it was in the apartment of Izabella Barcińska, Chopin's sister, in Warsaw). The family had previously made the autograph available to Kazimierz Wójcicki, who published a fragment of the content in 1856. Subsequent editions of Chopin's correspondence provide the content based on this publication. On the NIFC website, the content of the Courier is given based on the widely distributed 1955 edition of Chopin's Correspondence. The latest study appeared in the 2009 Chopin's Correspondence. The content remains unchanged there.

Chopin's Letter

Fryderyk Chopin was an admirer of coffee and health drinks – especially acorn coffee. We can read about this, among other places, in his letters to his family, which he wrote in the form of the „Szafarnia Courier” from Szafarnia, where in 1824 He was on vacation.

„(...) - J. P. Jakub Chopin drinks six cups [!] of acorn coffee a day, while Mikołajek eats four rolls every day, nota bene besides a hearty dinner and a three-course supper. (...)”

„On August 19, 1824. National News (...) On the 18th of the current month and year, Mr. F.F.M.I. Chopin drank seven cups of acorn coffee. One must expect that soon he will drink eight.”
